Backpack Sketchbook - Pakistan

Keeping a travel journal isn't always convenient at the time, but opening its weathered cover years later brings back a flood of memories that would have been lost. I drew this one evening during a stay with a friend's very generous and hospitable family in Lahore, Pakistan. The family would gather every evening to sit, tell stories, and host a multitude of neighbors and relatives who dropped in to visit. There were many people living close together, plenty of shared meals seated on the floor, and dozens of new surprises every day.
Although our customs and cultures are different, seeing this reminds me that we have more in common with the rest of the world than we think.
